Dragon of the Desert

Grumbling and growling He races 'cross the sky Stars wink, then blink, 'hind shadowed Dragon's wings on fly Flashes cross the desert land Saguaro's Arms uplifted, Bravely make their stand

Thank you Anna! Yes, the monsoon season in the desert Southwest is a dream, sometimes, scary....!! But we do love them. I love the lightning after a rain, but not at all when there is no rain!! It does sound like a growling dragon as the dark storms race across the desert, and the flashing lightning reminds me of a dragon. I sometimes wonder what the saguaros sense, do they feel the power racing through the atmosphere? I love them, they are so unique, old and strong. They do inspire me. I'm glad you like my poem dear Anna :) <3

Wow Mike, that is awesome, what a great compliment :) I forget most people don't know about the saguaros, they are rare, only growing in our region of the world. Happily, they are preserved in the Saguaro National Monuments East and West of Tucson, AZ. We love to drive through and see them, they are astounding. I hope you have a wonderful upcoming week-end Mike, thank you for your visit and sweet comment! :)

So vivid, BJ! Words full of courage! A great metaphor for standing in the storm. Enjoyed your creative, image rich poem! I can see the scene through your words! Blessings to you!

Thank you Sam :) I'm glad I captured part of the essence of a storm across the desert. Sometimes it is good to have the images from nature inspire us. The saguaro's can't help but to keep me in awe. I was scared of them as a little girl, when we visited AZ from Northern CA.My mother warned, "Be careful of the jumping cactus!" I saw the saguaro, not the jumping cactus, and I was terrified it would leap on me and carry me away in it's thorny arms. Turns out, they are very mellow, just not to hug or anything ;)

Saguaro's Arms uplifted--that is how it stands. Great observation, BJ. I had to look up Saguaro--learned a new word.

They are rare, but we are well accustomed to them in the Southwestern part of the US :)
