Downward Spiral
I was falling from the edge of heaven.
In my downward spiral I saw others in the same free fall.
We reached out to one another,
but your loved ones caught you and ripped you from my grasp.
I wasn't trying to take you with me.
I just wanted you to know that you didn't have to crash alone.
Love failed to catch me.
I plunged through their hugs and prayers.
Falling through the branches of my family tree.
Bouncing of the stoned cliff walls.
It didn't break my fall.
It just broke your heart,
and sent me spiraling out of control.
You threw me a life line to sobriety,
I was entangled and nearly hung myself,
but the rope broke from the weight of the world,
and I fell even faster.
Falling with nothing to hold on to.
Even hope slipped through my fingers.
I plunged through the earth, and crashed straight into hell.
The impact shattered my soul and skattered my bones,
and left the angels in my life picking up the pieces.
All that remain are the fragments of who I use to be,
the sharp shards of rose petals,
and the shrapnel of memories,
that could never fill the hole I left in your heart.
