Dolly

There was a tree I remember that Though the house seemed dark I swear. Father had left us months ago Now Christmas time was here. Sister, well, she was only three and knew not much of presents I cried for many things that year one of them loving parents. On Christmas morning beneath the tree a special Dolly waited with joints that moved and eyes of glass sorrow had abated. Dolly, well she was an real angel for she’d brought my Daddy home. Convinced was I by twinkling eye and sparkling golden comb. Magical Dolly with moving hands, no matter a bit broken, the token Daddy gave to me love had truly spoken.

This poem grabbed my heart the first time I read it.....it still does once again. No matter a bit broken.............love is what counts and what we take with us for the rest of our lives, however, and whenever it is given. :)

Debbie, I very much like this sort of poem which you are so skilled at writing....sort of Walt Whitman but more heartfelt.....I remember writing once to you about a poem which you felt was your best or one of your best( remember?), I didn't think it reflected your real talent Deb......however this poem DOLLY does reflect that talent,,,,kinda shows the inner or perhaps real "you",,,that's just my feeling...maybe you disagree? sincerely Syd

Sweet one, Deb. And wrapped around it is the story of how you felt abandoned by your dad. Mine was not there for us either in our childhood. I really need to take time to do these contests even though I have no clue yet how to do them! thanks for the favs. I appreciate it. LUv, Andrea

It must have been tough growiing up without loving parents, Deb. How wonderful that the "Magical Dolly" brought your father home to you. Delightful thoughts from a child's perspective. Best wishes in the "toys" contest, Deb. Love, Carolyn

Oh Deborah. A sad childhood memory for you also. This is very moving. I like your use of rhyme inside some of the lines. It's an intriguing use of rhyming and rhythm. Very good. ps. soup mail to you
