Have you heard of the Kakapo? A Kakapo … I guess the answer’s no! Kakapo’s are a breed of parrot but they cannot fly They are far too heavy and would fall from the sky! Kakapo’s can live for a hundred years… A hundred years – I couldn’t believe my ears It may sound strange yes even quite absurd But I’ve fallen in love with this cute rare bird 11~14~16

My first assumption on your poetry is borne out with this one. You are drawn to nature and the creatures therein. Loved the rhythm of the rhyme reminded me of a parrot rocking back and forth on its perch. Very informational too on this type of bird. Now, a question. I am new to this site. How do I attach a picture to my poems? My email is codyblue2@yahoo.com. Would appreciate your input. Thanks.

It reminds me a bit of the Kookaburra and the Kiwi if they mixed. It's a cute little thing. I enjoyed your homage to it Jan. thank you for sharing the picture as well. I enjoyed reading about a species new to me I have never seen. Mahalo Connie

Not strange and absurd at all.... It's a cute bird. And although his circumstances seem serious, he has a rather humorous head and posture. Not unlike us humans :)

Your comment made me smile Darren! I was absolutely enchanted by the BBC programme I watched at the weekend - the bird reminds me of 'wally birds' which were modelled by the Martin Brothers' if you google them you will see what I mean.:-) hugs Jan xx

HAHA He is cute too. I hope they can bring back the breed and he doesn't go the way of the Dodo bird. I bet they would make a good pet. Nicely done my friend. God Bless, JB

Judy that pet idea is a lovely idea ... but they live about 100 years so a wildlife park would be more suitable.! I was enchanted when I saw the programme its called New Zealand Earth's mythical Island - worth trying to find epsiode 3 on u tube sometime. :-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, I wouldn't go right to cute! However, i do think it would be a great thing to preserve them. Every animal was put here for a reason. I do think the poem is cute:)

Thanks Daniel:-) There was a firm called the Martin Brothers and they used to make 'grotesque' birds and the Kakapo really reminds me of them - I watched a documentary on New Zealand yesterday and it was absolutely fascinating reading up afterwards about these incredible creatures.

Indeed that Ot can't fly...would be wonderful to touch it without this bird leaving away. How rare indeed and beautiful.

I watched a documentary on New Zealand it was absolutely fascinating how they are trying to increase the population of this rare species. they put a false egg in the nest and incubate the real one and then hand rear the chick for a few days before putting it in the nest when the mother has gone for a wander. It has been known for the mother to attack the chick.. but the footage they showed was of a successful outcome:-) it is absolutely fascinating Charma and I was enchanted by this lovely rare bird:-) hugs jan xx

LOL Stephen! I saw a programme last night on new Zealand and it focused on this incredible bird - seeing the picture it reminds me of the 'Wally birds' pottery by the Martin Brothers. I just thought the Kakapo were so so interesting I has to write a poem about them:-) hugs jan xx
