Dirge of a Nation
Way down yonder in New Orleans
Lie the ruins of the American dream.
What was once a garden of Eden,
Is now the center of nightmare scenes.
Creole babies with tear filled eyes
Sharply exhale grief stricken sighs,
Left to the storm they knew was in sight,
Left defenceless to their avoidable plight.
Does the US government feel no shame,
Where will Bush seek to lay the blame
For this grim hell right here on earth,
Once the proud home of music and mirth,
Now shot through with agonizing screams
Way down yonder in New Orleans?
