Desperate Hope’s a friend of mine. All too well do I know him. He doesn’t come around much now except when things get really grim. New remedies sometimes he brings, and then my trust in him renews. But like his other things I’ve tried, the “new thing” just ends up old news. He comes in guise of people who make awesome promises to me. Doctors and the so-called health nuts; some even say my cure is for free. Complacent in my misery I seem to have become although Desperate Hope might still pop up. No TRUE friend! I should call him foe.

Andrea, I wish you the very best of luck with this darkly humorous, forthright and honest presentation of your contest subject. Excellent use of concise English and practical imagery. In turn I really appreciate your review of my work “Quietly We Trudge.” Happy New Year to you. Wishing you success in all areas of your life Howard

The sense of irony and humor.... both are equally present in this poem. Being too busy at home, don't have time to elaborate. Enjoyed your poem much, especially the following line. "No TRUE friend! I should call him foe". Wish you a Happy New Year dear Andrea.

Sorry about the situation with your husband. That makes life tough. Lucky for him you are saintly!! I also have heath issues, but the reason I am quitting work is that the boss has made it unpleasant. I made it almost to 73. I started getting headaches and panic attacks. There are a lot of very difficult issues we have to deal with. I will be thinking about what you are going through and hoping that any hope we have gets a positive answer for both of us.

Duke. That's horrible about your boss. My husband faced this exact same situation when he had a really nice trucking job but he felt forced to quit and was taking less attractive jobs after that. He too suffers anxiety and has had depression for years but his meds help. Happy New Year my friend

I feel you through these words really, health issues especially the kind that is rare and has little or no cure is such a struggle and challenging battle to fight with. And you’ve expressed that so well here, and written for desperate hope in such a soul stirring manner, i truly felt this one. Sending you light always dear andrea.

As long as there is life, there is always hope. I tell Cody that they are close to a breakthrough for Huntington's Disease or that he might never come down with the worst of it. Thanks for sharing these thoughts with us and for dropping by my page. Have you tried eating several servings of uncooked nuts a day. Try different kinds like a few almonds, a few walnuts, a few Brazil and a few pecans so as not to add too many calories. I just feel like they might help. Sara K

I've tried every supplement and food suggested for nerve disorders. I eat very healthy for prevention of cancer. Thanks, and good luck for Cody. My disorder has no name because it's too rare.

I've been to all kinds from medical doctors to the ones more like witch doctors. All the info in the world and my disorders can't even be given a name.

Enjoyed your poem about that old fake friend. A lesson to be learned by discernment, I guess. Good luck in the contest.

I understand...so many 'false cures' out there. In desperation, we've spent good money on a few of them. In today's world they're are so many greedy folks who want to take advantage of people who are desperately in pain. Sad. Sorry you had to experience that. Sending you an e-hug....and wishes for a pleasant new year, Sara

In our desperation, due to our lack of ability, there is always hope. But it is our foe who robs us of it, to separate us from our friend who saves us. Our foe is victorious in our anger, but it is our friend who is glorified when we do all things in love.
