Demon Loneliness
It was a nice evening
out with good friends,
filled with enjoyment
and fun conversations,
a much needed break
for a soul starved for
attention and hungry
for companionship,
and then it all ended
as abruptly as it began
and that demon called
loneliness crept back,
victorious once again,
slinking triumphantly
about in the stillness,
unseen, unheard, yet
a constant companion
riding along on life's
shadow train toward
destiny's final station.
