Deep In the Woods
Deep in the woods, I am alert yet tense
As I look around for signs of my prey
But my prey is also aware of my presence
In this cat and mouse game that we play
Suddenly I stop in my tracks
As I catch a glimpse of the deer
Hoping my arrow finds it before the wolf pack
Who I sense are drawing near
The deer has picked up the scent of the wolves too
But before it can scamper away
My arrow finds its mark , but I knew
That I might also become their prey
As these savvy predators close in, it is no surprise
That today belongs to the wolves, and I surrender my prize
