                 **********************************************************************

What causes a relationship to fail? Decay sets in when thoughtlessness persists, when selfishness extends beyond the pale, and chances to show love are blindly missed. Vacated houses crumbling with decay once teemed with life and families with dreams. Now in the wind, these spindly structures sway, not willing to give up the ghost, it seems. But Nature’s life-renewing power leans upon decay of plants. Like night and day, these opposites, decay and growth, are means that lead to all Earth’s glory on display. Each year Spring plants and flowers grace the Earth, for God decreed that death results in birth.

This is a wonderful poetic poem Janice. Very well written. Great flow and such a well constructed sonnet. I love the lines, ‘these opposites, decay and growth, are means that lead to all Earth’s glory display’.I’m reading it out aloud and can hear Shakespeare in my ear! Brilliant! The ending couplet is magnificent as well. Very impressed. Loved it! Thank you for sharing :)

You have handled the topic in a highly philosophical way. Decay and growth contrasted in abstract human relationships and tangible structures! Lovely sonnet dear Janice. All the Best !

Very true! Our world shows decay. I remember one house with a proverbial white picket fence, perfect pair of beds for their children but they moved in, things fell apart apropos of the relationship like the flood and dismantling of kitchen. The other way around was overgrowth then a lovely mossing like a fairytale as relationship got better. Two different stories.

Your ending line captures the essence of your poem for me, Janice. Renewal follows decay--nature's way of healing!
