Dec 8th Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception

Ah for the love of our Lord. Many folks don't understand what is meant by the "Immaculate Conception". I too at one time thought the title referred to the Virgin birth of Our Lord Christ. That it was as said in the bible that the Holy Spirit came down on Mary and she conceived our Lord Jesus Christ. Well, for those of us still not quite up on that term, it simply means that the Blessed Virgin Mary herself, ( when she was conceived in the womb of St Ann, her mother,) was conceived without original sin. A specific honor given to Mary by God so that Christ could be born of Mary who by God's grace was conceived sinless-that is to say without original sin- and "full of Grace". I hope that helps some who were as confused about this feast day as I used t be. God bless us all and Have a happy feast day. May the Blessed Mother put a kind word in to Jesus for each of us.

this has been a traditionronouncemental hand me down orally in the Catholic church since or theologically evolving from the time of the Apostles and was finally put in writing and made dogma in the nineteen fifties to avoid any confusion. Our Lady appeared to a peasant girl named Bernadette many times after that pronouncement and called herself by that name. These apparitions were later confimed by the Church. An interestind story. google St. Bernadette of Lourdes. many have been healed at site

I thought that it meant that Mary conceived Jesus through the Word delivered by the Angel..The Word was implanted in her womb when she said so be it...Interesting thoughts that you have penned...I was delighted that you stopped by and commented on my fictional work..Sara

All those years of Catholic school and the nuns and priests never explained this to us. Thank you so much, Rob. I truly didn't know and thought "immaculate conception" referred to Christ's virgin birth. I guess God loved Mary so much that he wanted her to enter this world herself without the stain of original sin. Something to think about. Love, Carolyn
