Days of Summer Long Ago

When the days of summer seemed so long And the dirt road was my path I'd find pop bottles by the side of the road Thrown from cars as they roared past I'd collect the bottles of many shapes and sizes Then to the grocery store I'd go The cashier would always smile at me When I brought in the load Three cents apiece I got back then And candy I might buy Or maybe a pack of baseball cards With bubble gum inside It seems now not so long ago Those childhood days gone past When the days of summer seemed so long And a dirt road was my path David Gary Pennington
