Dawbreak With a Noble King
Since you left us,
Each morning I awake precisely
At dawn.
Snatched from my troubled attempts at sleep,
I'm suddenly, acutely lucid and aware.
This in itself is odd, given,
Dawn and I rarely greet each other,
Unless I’ve not slept at all.
My natural rhythms preferring the nights.
It is so quiet and still.
A peace to it, a delicacy.
Like you and I are the only ones here.
In this silent, sweet moment, together.
The moment my eyes pop open,
I feel you. I hear you. You are with me.
You flood my head with the memories.
The love, the artistry, the poetry you gave me.
Wouldn’t you know it.
Yet another gift you present me.
Don’t stop coming to me in our silent, sweet hour.
I will spend each dawn with you for eternity.
