Dave the Brave
I have a long time friend named Dave
Who has been asked to do something most would consider as brave
By donating bone marrow a life he could save
The power to keep someone out of a grave
What a decision to have on his shoulders
A decision as heavy as two mammoth boulders
He has been a valued blood donor for quite awhile
They need another donation but of a different style
He was phoned and told he was a match
But also told there was a catch
They informed him there would be pain after the surgery
And that it would feel similar to a major injury
They would not say if he was matched with a male
Or if he was matched with a female
The recipient’s identity confidential
Their need for his marrow substantial
He was told that they are overseas
This didn’t upset him nor did it please
The surgery will obviously be free
And obviously it should be
The question lingers as to will he say yes
To say yes or no would just be a guess
What would I do if put in the same situation
To donate marrow to a person of another nation
It’s easy to say yes to a question that’s hypothetical
In the same way a citizen acts political
But when it comes to the crunch
You are either with or against the bunch
I think it is truly admirable to donate
But it is a personal situation one has to evaluate
If you do decide to donate that’s great
But if you don’t there should be no hate
If the decision is no from Dave
Does this make him any less brave
I don’t think so
If to others it’s yes how far does one have to go
There are other ways a person’s braveness can show
One such way is saying no
With a decision of no will there be regret
Will he be consumed by this and constantly fret
The decision is his and one he has to make on his own
After this decision he will be truly grown
Don’t think you are responsible for a stranger’s fate
There are other options it won’t be too late
And no matter what, highly you will rate
Good luck with your decision my mate
