DAUNTLESS for Walt Whitman

On the mountain climbs a cloud
                Who never fears retreat
                 Sensationally his climb excels
                 As other clouds he meets

                While longingly I--on the ground--
Would soar up if I could
To join his fearless one time climb
                Without the fear of blood

Valdez, Alaska
from a former climber
now a hiker....

This poem exhibits some remorse at having to drop participation in an activity once revered. I sense injury, physical or/and emotional, plays its part in this charade. .... Jake

oh, Jake, you clever fellow! At age 38 an auto accident ended an avid climber's former life as a white whiter rafter/high adventure life....bird watching doesn't quite cut it, but I am trying!
