What courage she must have had To believe in her heart To shadow Naomi’s steps Follow her to another land A place she’d never been What courage she must have felt To walk the path toward a place She’d never seen herself But had only heard and dreamed about A land faraway from her people A land where she believed God would bless her completely What courage she must have known To have gleaned from the crops Of a stranger to her own soul, a stranger Who would offer her His land to glean All the food she could gather More than she would have expected What courage she must have borne To have proposed to love someone She had only known for a short time Someone who might or might not Extend a welcome to her proposition Would he be pleased with her? Or would he downright reject her? It would be only a short while Before Boaz became her spouse The one who would father the child Who would make her the great grandmother Of King David… a man after God’s own heart Who would also be the forefather of One, The light of the world, Jesus Christ What courage she must have known To become grandparent to God’s only Son! 1 Samuel 13:14 (KJV) - But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.
