CVS--how not to treat a customer

My wife and I were at Costco and shopped there today. We thought we could get to the 24-hour CVS in time to pick up a presciption. CVS pharmacies close between 1:30-2:00 PM for their lunch period. The traffic was bad, but we got there in time, parked, and I jogged to the back of the store. There was one customer being served who was finishing. However, the person managing the pharmacy employees would not let them serve me. She told me they would be closing in a minute, and I would have to wait a half hour. I said really....I have my credit card and the prescription is ready--it's just a pickup. The employees were there and were staring. She said I should know better than to show up just before they normally close.

Euphemistically a "No soup for you!"

Anyway, a half hour later I ended up waiting in a line, the manager engaged with me, and I said I hope you feel good about what you did, and I am just glad I don't work for you. They probably have video of these two encounters, which they should use for training, "How not to treat a customer."

Their 1:30 lunch—that is fine But I’m there at 1:29 They said you're too late With glee closed the gate So I filed a protest online

James, we all do get mistreated from time to time by other stressed humans. As you note, the health care professionals are the best! I often think of medical appointments as mini vacations. Of course they love you since you show them some appreciation.

I love how you can turn this frustrating experience into an excellent limerick Duke, if you get no joy from your on line protest I would contact head office and let them know - it would have taken a minute to serve you - sadly its service with a snarl - its not like the prescription had to be prepared its just a pick up:-( just been for my meds, we are lucky as we do get wonderful personal service from our local chemist:-) hugs jan xx

Jan, I sent a certified letter to their CEO, and they signed for it. So, we'll see what happens. I've been back there twice since then without any issues, but that annoying person was not there, which was just as well--although I would say nothing/ They have to handle it. I may transfer my Rx to a different pharmacy, but that remains to be seen.

Dear Duke, its very interesting the background story of this and what inspired your limerick to how it was delivered as well. Its sad when some individuals arent empathetic and they have no idea what customer service is really. Iv had similar situations and you were nothing but patient and graceful in handling the matter as well as saying that at the end is brave of you. Im not so good with limericks but i enjoy reading them. I absolutely loved this! Creative, brilliant rhymes. Pleasure readng

Dear Ink Empress, thank-you for the comment and empathy. Yes, we're all been abused in small and (hopefully only small) ways. Since there are very angry people who might go berserk, I would suggest to customer service and sales people that they show a little kindness to all who visit. I try to take the civilized route.

I think you could turn any moment into a limerick... I am not surprised by how some behave in todays day and age.. nicely done Duke..

Yes, it's unfortunate, but we see this kind of thing a bit too often. When I am out in this world, I try to savor every interaction with every person I meet and treat everyone with respect. I mistakenly sometimes assume everyone else has the same goal.

Oh that's really a strange behavior towards their customers.. You've really given a voice to those thoughts which arise in such situations, sometimes, management can be a bit center-aligned and rude, not thinking about people. How creatively you've captured that in your limerick, effortlessly done.. Sending best wishes, a pleasure reading your work!

Hiya, thank-you for the comment. I really appreciate seeing the complement you give. I try to give a little humor and exposure to life's little adventures. It did make me quite mad at the time, but I refrained from doing much other than giving the manager a bit of lip about her behavior. She didn't want to give me the time of day. So, I sent a letter to corporate. Let them deal with it.

- Without customers in the "shop" ... she would be without this job ... customers should not be treated this way - Woow ... rude, Duke - hugs

Anne-Lise, I agree completely. If they take no pleasure in the work they do, something is wrong with them or the environment they work in. I hope they get this resolved and never do this to anyone else.

Wow and with glee it is sad how some people treat others when they have a position of power and you are at the mercy of that power sorry you were treated this way many blessings.

Thanks Yolanda. It hurts. It was a small thing in my life, but we have to push back on any bad treatment. I sent a letter of complaint to the company, so hopefully this will not happen to others in the future. I will be transferring my prescriptions to a different pharmacy going forward since the experience was so distasteful.

Hi Duke, bravo, well penned, i think this is a universal problem, also with us in South Africa, exactly the same, but who do we blame, management of course.. Hope you are keeping well. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Thanks Jennifer...I am just starting to calm down over this experience. It's over. However, I have to thank them for the inspiration. Seems like bad customer service can proliferate on all continents. Glad we have a chance for a little intercontinental comparison!

Another great limerick from you dear Duke. You do them with such great ease. I always say that I have tolerance of a gnat these days so I would probably have been raising my voice with this situation. But with you, it’s not just a question of how not to treat a customer but how dignified a customer is when not being treated politely and fairly! Bless you. I’m glad you are putting your appalling treatment into a letter. Good for you my friend! Blessings to you.

In truth, this incident has been bothering me for days. Tomorrow I mail a certified letter to the CEO. The people behind the counter need to treat people the way they want to be treated and customers should respect the workers. Disrespect is not good especially if someone does have a temper and loses control.

Wow the nerve of that biatch. Great story of how not to trust customers

Yeah, I've told a lot of people about this experience since it was so annoying. They get a lot of bad press from acting with disrespect. Really not necessary. I would much rather be here reading your poetry than experience a misadventure like that. But alas, we have to go out sometimes!

Wow: She said I should know better than to show up just before they normally close!!! I would never talk to a customer like that!

Yes, this was a bit disturbing to me. I am writing the CEO and expressing my displeasure--mailing will occur on Tuesday. I realize it's very difficult to find and keep good people, but this sort of thing should never happen to a customer. I hope the person involved gets some training and is not making her coworkers' lives miserable.
