Curb Children

The curb children sit on the curbs in front of their houses Boys with boys and girls with girls They’re between the ages of five and eight They have nice backyards but all the cars and people That go by can only be seen if they sit on the curb They stare at the drivers passing by As the drivers slowly drive by and smile The boys have their bikes next to them on the curb And the girls have their dolls with them in their arms Their front doors are open and an adult is sitting on the porch The boys get on their bikes and ride down the streets The girls look at the boys and run in the house to get something to eat I just love to see the curb children They’re so cute and sweet

I grew up on a dead end street. There were kids outside from the time school ended until well after the sun had set. Now days, we'd be in violation of curfew, and our parents would be getting visits from the dept. of child safety for leaving us unsupervised (negligence!). Man...when did I turn into one of those old-timers pontificating about "the good ol' days" and "kids these days"...haha, sorry. I liked this poem, it was a fun reminder of simpler times.

I grew up on a dead end street as well; ditto on everything you've written. Wow

Indeed they have Jan, but when I saw some children sitting on the curb I just had to write a poem about it. Thanks for reading my poem
