Crushed
Hope Is not crushed by oppression
God hears the downtrodden’s plea
Faith is not crushed by science
Because it’s faith that sets us free
Betrayal will not crush love
Though wounded, it carries on.
Putting down roots in the ashes,
When hope of renewal is gone.
Reason is not crushed by rhetoric
As truth is not crushed by lies,
For the flame that burns within us,
Burns bright in the darkest of skies.
Our spirit cannot be crushed
By advancing years and pain,
When the fervour of life is hushed,
The embers of youth remain.
Life is not crushed by death
For our soul is set free to return
To the love from whence we came
To the God for whom we yearn.
