On Tuesday my mum was diagnosed with Covid so I guess the theme was a natural choice for me - there is a degree of poetic licence - I have  been double vaxxed and will have the booster if I'm offered it in the future. I take my chance and appreciate the beliefs of others who do not feel the same as i do

To take the vaccine That is the decision People must make On Covid nineteen A choice to decide by the close of day I have just reached that crossroads knowing that the conspiracy theorists warn people not to have it. Some deny the existence of Covid, and claim it is no worse than just a common cold, but I have decided I'll receive the first inoculation It's an easy decision A no-brainer for me Although inoculated sadly my poor Mum has caught the virus I can't visit with her It's so heartbreaking because she lives in a facility that I can't visit as long as there is a quarantine edict CROSSROADS Poetry Contest Sponsored by Kim Rodrigues 09/26/21

Oh Jan, I am so sorry to hear about your "mum!" What a heartbreaking situation for you. Both my husband and I have had the vax and had the booster. There is so much controversy around the vaccine. You have captured that perfectly. Congratulations on your timely write! In my prayers. Hugs or elbow bumps!

Congrats on your winning work. Way to go. My husband and I were vaccinated with both injections but it was January and February then in August exactly 6 months later that we came down with the malady. It is horrible and no one should allow themselves to get it. I felt I and my husband were close to death but we were not hospitalized. My husband had fluids twice in the doctor's office and antibiotics twice. You do not want it. Our daughters came with masks on and gloved up, etc. They do care Sara

It's painful news Jan, I do hope your Mother will get better soon. It seems if vaccinated the illness will not be so severe. Sincerely hope this is the case. kindest regards...Delice

Very sorry to hear Jan, the vaccine is not 100%, however what saddens me more , if more people understood and got it, then it might not have spread as it has. Of course being educated I got both doses, not so much for me, but to protect those around me. I hope you mum recovers, and I wish more people would think of others, hugs

Sorry to learn of your mom's illness. I can tell you it is worse than any cold that you could ever have even if you have had the vaccinations. I had it as did my husband and grandson who lives with us. My grandson and I had the viral upset stomach plus I had the nasal congestion. I was sick for 21 days with the worst upset stomach I have ever had plus horrible exhaustion, fatigue. Our grandson wasn't sick but about 3 to 5 days but not so for my husband and I . He developed pneumonia. Sara

They say she's doing well, but of course I am not allowed to see her. I accept people's decision not to have the vaccine but some of the propaganda that is spread beggars belief:-( so sorry you and your family have been so badly affected, its a vile illness. hugs Jan xx

Hi Jan, I'm sorry to hear about your mother; I know it's hard not to be able to visit her. I don't understand how folk can think Covid was a just a common cold. I wish it were; I'm so tired of this dreadful disease. You did a good job with the contest challenge. Best wishes in the contest-Alexis

Yes I think I can and do Jan. But in my limited life experience although I think I can and may well be able to empathize with your situation. I would never wish to presume I have any idea what you are going through or feeling. I only wish you and yours well and a positive speedy recovery. Hugs and blessings

aww thanks Chris this one really did come from the heart, having mum diagnosed with covid was a huge shock as we thought it was contained to 2 other units, still no idea when the home will be covid free its to be reviewed on 30th but so far no more information id available - not even an update to the press has been forthcoming which was 'imminent' on Saturday:-( being treated like mushrooms - you know that saying I'm sure:-( hugs Jan xx

Andrea, taking the vaccine is a decision each individual person can make, you know that I accept your decision not to have the jab as you understand mine for taking it. hugs Jan xx
Date: 9/26/2021 12:12:00 PM
That's fine for you. You certainly have the right to your personal choice. Others simply refuse the vaccine, their decisions based on science that applies to them. Absolutely no healthy child needs a mask, nor vaccine. I will say a prayer for your mother. Blessings my friend!

yes she's had both shots (as have I ) and thankfully her case seems to be mild, the outbreak started on 11th and now this is the third unit to be affected, its heartbreaking on so many levels:-( hugs Jan xx

Jan, we all have to make critical choices we believe are best for ourselves, and no one is being judged for their genuine sentiments. I'm worried about you and your mother. Best wishes for the contest, and get well soon.

Jan, I read your poem twice. I am deeply concerned for your mom...and you. We all have to make the decisions we feel are best for us, and no one should be put down for their sincere feelings. But, it does present a crossroads in our thinking. Best for you in the contest, and GET WELL SOON!

I'm susceptible to these type of chest infections and that was one of my major reasons for having the vaccine and also my hubby is vulnerable because of his health issues, mum was double jabbed and I'm hoping she will remain with mild symptoms. It is such a worry. I accept those who don't get the jab and hope they understand my decision but the conspiracy theories get more milder by the day:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Tania. I'm laid low with a chest infection but its nothing compared to the situation in mum's home. I am so worried not only for mum but the other residents and staff on the units:-(hugs Jan xx

I applaud your statement of appreciating the fact that others may not believe as you do. Now, if only others would be as tolerant as you are. I also admire your view of standing at the crossroads, trying to make the best decision for us as individuals. Well crafted, poem, Jan.

Yes and we must respect these views and freedoms, for example, I am a great drunk driver, I have never hurt anyone in my life, I have the right to drive drunk, is my right, why that's illegal in some places really confuses me. Now for some facts, many do take the vaccine, in some places over 90% and oh my, less hospitalizations and deaths. This is not about "us" but about others. People can believe in whatever they want, however what they can not do is impose that belief on others or threaten their safety. I might add is a criminal offense to yell "Fire fire" in a theater when there is no fire.

Thanks for your support with my thoughts Jenna, I know many will not take the vaccine and that is down to personal choice. I've not been around much lately - laid low with a terrible chest infection (I had a covid test which thankfully was negative) I've not been in the home since covid was suspected but it was a complete shock when mum tested positive as her unit wasn't on the same floor as the other cases, its heartbreaking on so many levels:-( hugs Jan xx
