Crimson Dreams
close your eyes now for a bit -
you in the back too, I'll wait -
and keep 'em closed too
now think back to the first time,
when you hadn't started school yet
and you lived in the now, then
you could be the tree you climbed
you were the sky you arced
you became the thing you thought
now keep 'em closed, and squint again
see the spots inside, the dots of red
inside your eyes, like the first time
they were always there though
the first time you saw them you
were amazed at the kaleidoscope
the turning shaded yellows to red
the very blood of your being
becoming dreamy soft breathing
in the late autumn, late afternoon
sun oblique through the window
and your cat ears quietly twitching
