COVID brain storming

I can’t sleep because I can’t breathe My mind is bleeding red thoughts so odd Thoughts like I wish to eat and not get fat To stop coughing up my blue heart It occurs to me COVID is the beast That killed my clairvoyant auntie And I suddenly realize that I did not have it harder then her She battled breast cancer With chemotherapy and her work laptop So valuable to her coworkers it was Nothing for them to email during procedures So why take her and leave me It’s not my time it seems But I am sad she passed Before shots were available So I don’t get to woe is me But I do wish to see her again When it is my time.

Covid is frankly terrifying. I lost a couple of friends to it. And I am pretty sure, my roommate, myself and my son had it before it was a named thing. I thought we just had the stomach flu from hell that January. ( we lived just North of where covid made land fall in North San Jose, CA. Patient 0 there died in her apartment and the coroner struggled to figure out what killed her because of her multi organ failure. Love the poem. Reminds me of that time and the uncertainty.

I have a feeling I'm immune to covid, but I'm not risking it. Poor auntie though.
