County Fair

Tuesday night Nobody reads poetry They all sit at home Dazed from Monday Oblivious and alone Postcards from Yesterday Upon the office wall Nothing left to do Let’s take the kids… To the fair Rick Skaggs is playing There’s a carney with a grin Stuffed animals And a hint of gin At the county fair Am I alone here? In this world Or does anyone really Care? Corn dogs At the county fair Meat on a stick So tasty Yet so unreal Don’t be late Don’t stay to long At the county fair Poetry can wait Cotton candy And a roller coaster Bumper cars And stomach aches At the county fair

I like this one kilmer because I think places like the county fair take us away from our own reality for a moment, but, as if nothing matters for that brief time where we can get away from the norm...thats how i felt when reading this poem. i'm going to coney island they still have those.weird freak shows lol we all need it sometimes just to have & outlet:) thanks for a good reminder...

Yes indeed. We have a very small county fair here with a rodeo every year. It's a hoot to go to because it's so corny (except for the rodeo part). The booths and rides are tiny and mostly for kids. But it's fun and weird at the same time. Kilmer

A nice escape. Your style reminds me a little of a Tim Burton film in this one. Quaint, charming with a hint of dimness. :)
