Breasts, boobies, knockers, **** – call them what you will We are talking about breast cancer – and sadly it can kill The key to success with catching the disease is early detection Remember boobies aren’t just funbags to give a fella an ******** Breasts can be appreciated in the their own unique way Have a feel for lumps make it a sexy game to play Let him ‘cop a feel’ and if a lump you do detect Go straight to the GP - this lump you mustn’t neglect It can be simply that you have lumpy boobs or a cyst It’s not necessarily cancer but it can be on the list The GP will send you for a mammogram or scan Mammograms aren’t comfy, staff do it as quickly as they can Hopefully the results will put your mind at rest But sadly sometimes it shows cancer of the breast Early detection is the key to beating this cancer Regular mammograms really are the answer Don’t forget about the men they have pecs or moobs They can get breast cancer too we are talking about ALL boobs Jan Allison 17th October 2014 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease – remember breast cancer affects both males and females with 1 in 1000 males being diagnosed with breast cancer

Jan, As much as I enjoy beautiful breasts, it saddens me to have lost loved ones and friends. I think they were afraid to find out, and by the time they did, it was too late. Makes me cry. Thank for posting this. Jim

I am glad to say my recent mammogram was negative so no more squashed boobies for 2 years - its not a pleasant procedure but when you consider the alternative 4 x rays could save your life so its a no brainer for me - our friend Kathy was a nurse she found a lump - did nothing - died leaving 3 children and I was adamant it would never happen to me - I found a lump about 8 yrs ago even had to have a needle biopsy but thankfully it turned out to be nothing sinister - I would urge anyone to have a mammogram :-) hugs jan xx

It's my style Angie - its a very serious subject but I do like a humourous element too

GREAT advice! Here's something I didn't know; the older you get the more likely you are to have a 'lump' not the less likely! Now that I think about it all your parts degrade with age SO hey elderly people go get checked! Light & Love

Thanks Debbie - even though its a very serious subject I tried to approach it with humour. Thanks for your valuable information Debbie - I know in England routine mammograms stop at age 70. Hugs Jan xx

I'm not sure about the second line of the second stanza being appropriate so I may change it and send it to the local branch - you know me Vera I try to write with a humourous side and i wanted to try to maintain this even though it is a very serious subject:-) Hugs as ever to you and peter:-) Jan xxx

The C word is such a horrible word. It's sad the amount of people it takes nowadays. Such a serious topic, enlightened with your words Jan, and that makes me smile, allowing such a horrible word to fade, James :) xx

Thanks James I tried to write with a little humour to tackle a very serous subject. It was my husband's cancer that got me writing my first poem in November last year and finally starting to post here after a friend saw my poems on a facebook page and persuaded me to post here - since then oh boy how my life has changed - so out of something bad something amazing has happened to me which has changed my life forever:-) hugs Jan xxxx

Jan that is a very good and informative poem thank you. I did not know that men can get it too. Now I will research and find out more about male breast cancer. And when I massage my sweethearts breast I do check for lumps and let her know. Thank you for this poem.

I am so glad my poem has highlighted this Bobb - I too was unaware of male breast cancer until I went to a talk by our breast cancer specialist this year - there I met a man who had had a double mastectomy 9 years ago. Hugs Jan xxx

You know me Andrea I try to tackle stuff in a light hearted way but at the same time highlighting such an important issue:-) Awareness is the key - early detection saves lives and people can be cured - sadly if it is left too late there is no cure they can merely give treatment and unfortunately people die. Hugs Jan xx

I love the way you tackled this Jan. Many are scared to talk about it out in public because of the intimate nature of the breasts. This issue needs to be front and center and at the top of all conversation...My kudos to you Jan...hugs Tim

Thanks Tim. I tried to tackle a very serious subject in a light hearted way - the more exposure we can get to highlight breast cancer the better. Here on the island they are fundraising £1.3 million for a new breast cancer unit - so it is very much in the news on a daily basis. Hugs Jan xxx

Well said Jan...like how you tackled this serious subject with humour as a useful tool. Awareness has to be followed up by regular checks. hugs // paul

Thanks Paul I didn't want to label it as a 'humourous' write but wanted a light hearted approach to a serious subject. I am delighted you approved of my style for this poem:-) I get the results of my recent mammogram when we return from holiday - am just hoping all is well - my neighbours cancer was detected with a routine mammogram:-)Hugs Jan xxx

Thanks Nette - I hope my humour doesn't detract from the fact we are dealing with a serious issue. I am so so sorry to learn about your friend - we need more awareness of male breast cancer. Hugs Jan xxx

I told Cas she could take out the ending of my breast one in case anyone found it offensive. I wrote a controversial one for one of the contests. I am going to send it to you because at this point I have decided not to post it. See what you think.

I think BOTH of your poems are excellent - the last line of your breast cancer poem is brilliant both my husband and i laughed out loud - PLEASE dont change it my friend go with your gut instinct of the first write - it may be a sensitive subject but with a light hearted approach it really does help - please see the comment Vienna has left me - and this is from a woman's perspective - humour really does help Maurice and you have excellent comedy timing:-) hugs my friend. Thanks Maurice I do appreciate that comment - I hope of of our poems to get 'Poem of the week' :-) It would be lovely to see one of the breast cancer poems there to highlight this terrible disease. I get the results of my recent mammogram in 3 weeks and I was more than happy to support Cas in writing a poem for her web page:-) Hugs Jan xx
