Coming and Going
Life is too short for the living.
Death is too long for the dead.
I know for I’ve been in both places
and heard what the residents said.
You may not believe when you’re living
that death has a birthday as well,
but when you are coming or going
it may still be to heaven or hell.
Most folks I find prefer living,
it easier there to decide
what pathways to take while you’re able
to influence which way you ride.
Sometimes while dead you’re in turmoil
not knowing just where you should go,
for echoes of past lives still follow
with the fruits of the seeds that you sow.
In life should the seeds that we planted
be buried in shared love and care
we’ll carry these with us forever
and help us for death to prepare.
For the heaven or hell that we live in
is decided by you not by fate,
and it matters not whether you’re living
or slipped once again through death’s gate.
Life is too short for the living.
Death is too long for the dead.
I know for I’ve been in both places
and seen the best pathways to tread.
