Coffee Time At Memorial
COFFEE TIME AT MEMORIAL
Memory-of on lips and gums.
Colgate’s sweetness still coating the tongue,
I am awash with morning coffee
Just swallowing, that basic act,
No easy task and that’s a fact
I muster singular control
But, oh, for a Horton jelly roll,
Or donut with its finger-poking hole
I laugh. It hurts. I loudly curse
Hospital delivery?
Impossibility
The staff in mandatory denial
Cream and sugar on the bedside stand,
But now a bathroom call. Oh, damn!
Thankful, nurse’s buzzer close at hand
