City of Angels

City of Angels City of angels You look like hell If only I didn’t Know you so well Preposterous palm trees Line your bleak streets Like spiked heads on long necks That rise from concrete Billboards that scream Neon that flashes I’ve dreamed more than once That you burned to ashes Smog and congestion From worship of cars Your denizens journey But never go far Their fantasies drive them But stay out of reach Like waves that don’t roll All the way to the beach The scent of the ocean Should soothe and inspire But I keep on dreaming You go up in fire
