City Lights
City lights
What stories do you tell?
A lonely woman checking out after a long day of work
One last sigh before the light goes out
A married couple fighting over the sound of a radio
The distress filling the air making everything feel tense
But the lights stay on much longer through the night
A homeless man sleeps on a bench
The street lamp just barely illuminating the snow falling onto the blanket
The only thing that is covering him
That light doesn’t go out at night, but inside it has
A man watches from the top of the city
Rich, everything supposedly figured out
The light is illuminated
But the light inside again, is not
The city may appear bright
But the darkness lies inside
