When I passed from this worldly realm of earth,
I became an angel in heaven with the Lord;
Now my job was to tend the birds in paradise
One day God called for me, and to him I soared.
He told me that he had a plan for mankind,
And that he was sending his only son to earth;
Then God told me that I had a new job to do,
I was to be an announcing angel of his birth.
The night arrived and I came from heaven,
And with me I brought a white bird of love;
I sang so all could know of the birth of Christ,
The messiah, and then I released the dove.
But then God had more for me to do you see,
He told me secretly that I was to be his angel;
I would be there for Jesus for all his days,
To watch over him and keep him from evil.
I will never forget that blessed nativity scene,
With Joseph and Mary and the baby Jesus;
And all the lambs, donkeys, ox, and camels,
The wise men came with gifts so boundless.
And every angel in heaven was singing sweetly,
Up above a shining star was glowing bright;
And loudly I sang a song of praise and hope,
Oh, it was an amazing holy and lovely night.
