Christmas Tree Family Tradition
They come in all sorts of sizes, shapes and colors
All hold their own characteristics and are unique from one another
You can purchase them in original hunters green, pretty pink or innocent white
Whatever tickles your fancy for your own Christmas delight
I prefer the real deal no matter the weather or condition
Since a small child myself, it's been a family tradition
We don't head out and select one from a tree farm
We take our kids for a hike into the woods and choose a glorious tree filled with charm
We chop down our tree and haul it back to the truck
We found the perfect one for us and bow our heads giving thanks for having such luck
We get it home and stand it up in the same tree stand I had with my family as a child
We take the time to trim it and give it extra tender loving care so it doesn't look so wild
As we break out all of the decorations the kids smile with glee
They get a twinkle in their eyes as they help spread them upon our tree
Once the lights and decorations with garland are on we still arent done
For the kids the fun has just begun
We let them add a whole bunch of different colored and flavored candy canes
We let them pluck one from the tree each day until Christmas, another walk down memory lane
We did change a tradition and added some of our own for as a child myself we'd place a star upon the top of our tree
Now with my own children instead we place an angel in memory of loved ones gone before us for everyone to see
