Christmas Eve
CHRISTMAS EVE
reindeer on the roof
crackling wood fire on the hearth
stirring memories
how magic the night
with all its mingled voices
for joy shed a tear
the tree – family
the lights – red, green, silver – bright
christmas child’s delight
the manger scene
with babe, simple animals
how warm, natural
head on a pillow
gazing up at the ceiling
a web of shadows
young thoughts go racing
mist – santa’s elves on the stairs
wishing time away
till it’s morning
those presents under the tree
eyelids grow heavy
before dropping off
this deep, jolly, ho, ho, ho!
Then to sleep
