Christmas Eve
Silver bells ring faintly through the wintry wooded land
from shiny horse-drawn sleighs gliding across powdered snow.
I cuddle up to a toasty fire with hot cocoa warming tired hands
as the Christmas tree soothes me with an iridescent glow,
and gaily decorated presents lie neatly adorned with bows.
On Christmas Eve, the children dream of Santa and sugary treats.
Reindeer food has been nibbled; cookies and milk are on the mantle.
My thoughts drift to ornery relatives and hopeful cooking feats,
until I see his profile beneath the mistletoe holding a candle.
The Lord's blessings float through me like the Christmas music of Handel.
