Chocolate Lies

When your heart's feeling less than whole,
half-truths become hard to endure.
And chocolate lies tempt your soul,
bittersweet; they leave you unsure.
As teardrops snuff passion's flame,
fantasy is rebuked by truth.
And fear begins assigning blame,
implicating the sins of youth.
Learning he had cheated on you,
you struggled to understand why.
And as your anxieties grew,
you wanted to curl up and die.
You let self-doubt council a heart
broken and exposed to attack.
And started questioning your part,
wishing you could turn the clock back.
Your heart was cut, as with a knife,
leaving you in anguish and pain.
And it's left a hole in your life
that threatens to drive you insane.
