Child
The child and I forever lie
Carelessly by the edge of the pool
Examining clouds in the distant sky
As if to find some special clue.
Reflections tease the mirror pool
I see the calmness of a face
Long silenced
Long gone.
The child turns to me
And asks with eyes of hope:
will men go to heaven when they die?
And because I know for sure
I quietly nod
And the child smiles.
