Checkmate

CHECKMATE I played the game of life with God. He let me win a few. Then He showed me in one more move that I was in a stew. I lost my Pawns. I lost my Knights. They were all in the way. His Knight overcame my Knight and left me in a fray. As His Bishops moved in upon me, I tried to protect my King, but sadly all was lost when He took away my Queen. Don't worry, He said with compassion. There's another place to be. Your Kingdom is in my world. It is not lost to thee. Janet Marie Bingham

This was so exquisitely written that I thought it was free verse which is my favorite poetry until I noticed rhyme. Yes, it is, but so expertly written, it distracted in no way from the content. A great job, Janet. Nicely said.
