Chasing Whiskey
There’s something that makes me wander
Has me curious about things
It’s calming as a dream can be
Only it quickly becomes as infinite as anything
I didn’t leave a trail of crumbs
Since I didn’t want to be found
I just wanted to traipse the fields
Until the day we’d meet on the battleground
Desiccant from lack of sleep
Parched from the uneven heat
Seems I was like a trapped domestic sheep
Now I can’t stop myself from getting in too deep
Why can’t we just drift?
Ramble round and round until we meet
Tramp the soil and dusty wheat
Pretend we’re nomads cruising in the backseat
Soot stained cheeks
Have your fingerprints on me
She’s not as much a lady
As she was believed to be
She has the gleam in her eye
The hunger of a beast
She burned the fruit from the low hanging trees
Let the settlers have their feast
Swine has herded at her feet
But it’ll take more than a lifeline
For her not to bloody the sheets
Shoot ‘em dead and lay ‘em in the streets
Sugar you’re not sweet to me
I’m just a jack looking for a splash of tea
Don’t go letting your hair down
Cuz I’ll just yank it until you break free
