Chasing Friendship
We could have been real close you know
If you'd given me one chance.
I wanted to share so much with you
Most of all, to be your friend.
I came across the ocean to be here with your son
Left family, friends and all I knew
Just because I was in love.
The first time that you met me
Your mind you had made up
That this girl was the wrong one
And will never, be good enough.
When I was all excited,
Wanting to share my joy
You just would sneer and turn away
Each time it broke my heart in two.
Do you have any idea what you did to me?
All those years cold hearted and proud
And telling tales behind my back
I'm glad they all knew me better than that.
I so longed for a mother
Mine, too far away.
We could have been the best of friends
If only, yes if only.
Now Anna on the day you died
I sat and hummed you peaceful songs
To help you on your way
And as you took your last breath
I was there being a friend
That's all I ever wanted to be.
