Champion
The misty morning reaches
for the mighty—
the air, flummoxed,
as they crash into
the little-known darkness.
Another life—taken,
reaching for the mighty,
clutched by
the merciless fogs of death...
He was a believer of dreams
with impeccable ability,
displayed in both physique and character—
a heart of gold,
a soul of brotherhood.
He was a champion—
a loyal friend—
a loving leader—
a determined fighter—
—a father—
to many, beyond his kin.
Rest in peace, Kobe,
and to all who have joined you,
Tragically
on the morning flight to the ether...
for you flew to higher heights
and made dreams into reality—
spinning, leaping and spiraling,
surpassing all disaster,
surpassing life itself.
-This poem "Champion" is dedicated to Kobe Bryant, and to all who have died in this morning’s flight, Rest in Peace -
