Caught In the Crossfire

Turmoil looms over private skies Thick with fog firmly affixed to a bedroom ceiling Though squinting escapes clarity's eyes Of love and hate in the brotherly cloud of feelings Of flesh and blood consumed with rage Over jealous tirades turned warriors gun As woeful stains turn the scrapbook page On a mothers memories of her sons Must steps so steep decline to this For boys to prove they're men To stand a savior when comes a crisis Yet left but a splinter his heart he'll rend One brute one tongue thrice will leave A mothers love the referee Her tug-rope heart torn from anxiety Caught in the crossfire of sibling rivalry A crystal tear center stage On the battleground that began with play So it falls till you reach that age When you learn the wisdom of walking away

I've never really gotten along well with my brother either. Nicely penned verses with good rhyming.

This returned my mind to the periodic rivalry with my brother. I still don't agree with him on many things, but he has a heart of gold, so I really can't complain. This is a huge, compelling write, Sarai. Thanks so much for sharing.

The desire to fight seems inborn. "Blessed are the peace keepers for they shall inherit the earth." truly walking away is the beginning of wisdom.

Yes, a brother is born for adversity but they always forget that Proverbs were not meant to be divided and that the previous exhortation was that a friend loves at ALL times. Thanks for catching my grammatical error. You know that never offends me. Thank you sweetie!

Each time I read one of your poems, I am more and more impressed by your writing skills! However, this describes some angst that I haven't yet read coming from your pen! Sibling rivalry is common... our family has been torn apart and mended again time and time again! But through it all, the family ties usual are strong enough and time heals! Yours will heal too! Warm loving hugs dear Sarai XOXOXOX

No worries Jack E. Mama just hates the A typical teen fighting. Us girly girls just get mean in other ways Lol It's just another day in the life. Hugs my friend XOXOX

Such visceral power & truth. That last stanza resounds so strongly with me. "Must steps so steep decline to this"...damn.
