Catching Smoke

I lost you a long time ago That explains this to and fro Your heart was never mine to begin with This is why I'm going to leave One foot in and the other out I knew it but I hid my doubts At the start I kept my joy in a little box Then you told me to show you everything I've got The box opened with such character You decided that that wasn't what you were after I fought to perfect what was once set in gold I cried to keep whatever I could hold I got on my knees a couple of times But nothing could ever make you mine I lost you when I got you That is the sad and obvious truth
