Carried Away
I wish to sate myself with the smells of fire
And drift like smoke into the air
Be cleansed by the drift in my heart’s desire
And chase stars clinging to the atmosphere
Or perhaps be embers that burn below the flame
Bright and essential light, intense in my burn
Longing to be utterly quenched by sweet rain
To char the memories of what I have spurned
Rather a bright summer breeze where eagles carry me far
Atop the strength of wings finding home for this castaway
Above the menagerie of each tragic scar
In the drift of fond freedoms that lift grief away
