Transportation in 2024 gives us indigestion. This is because...

A fill up with gas can cause pain And cramps up our style as we strain For cures less dismal Like Pepto Bismol Or a car with EV drive train

Every day life is the best thing to focus on when films, poetry or songs are being created, and who better to put it into Limerick form than Duke Beaufort, Bravo. Electric cars versus Gas, well pollution for a start would take pride of place, cheaper to run, more and more are being bought, into the market, and in a couple years to come, they will flood the market and the purchase price will also come down. Clever poem, hugs, blessings, Jennifer.

Jennifer, thanks and we are looking forward to better days. It's going to be one small step at a time that makes the world more inhabitable and stable. Not an easy thing for any of us.

A fine Limerick on the trials and tribulations of gas vs. electric, my friend. You're an expert at the Limerick form of poetry, Duke. Have a pleasant evening, my friend. Bill

Dear duke, i come from a small country, which has small islands,(maldives )but ofcourse we have cars and buses and all that which makes me wonder whats actually the point? How nice it would be to have electric little cars, environmental friendly too, like buggies, i love the way yove expressed real life struggles in a very light hearted manner as always. Youv nailed it. I always enjoy reading your clever limericks on such unique themes and rhymes.

IE, I was reading some info on Maldives as a result of seeing where you are from. It must be very different from here, which is wonderful of course. I often imagine a much better infrastructure for getting from place to place that reduces the number of cars we use, but we like being able to go on our own schedules. It's a luxury.

- No country in the world has more electric cars per capita than Norway ... (I don't have .... but it will be my next choice :) - I don't like Tesla ... it has to be something else :) - Love the humor, Duke :) - hugs

Anne-Lise, we actually have seen that many people in Norway are driving electric. It's a really good thing for your country!!! If you have charging at home or nearby to where you live, you will be in great shape. I'm just sorry we need to have a car at all. They're very expensive to own.

Hello Duke, your wonderful poem humorously highlights the everyday struggles we face, even in seemingly mundane tasks like filling up gas. Through witty wordplay, you shed light on the discomforts of modern life and hint at the potential for greener, more sustainable solutions like electric vehicles. I love that that you ask that we find humor in life's inconveniences while also pondering ways to minimize our impact on the planet. An excellent read Duke! - Blessings, Daniel

Daniel, you are so kind and generous with comments. It's a lot of work to respond in the way you do and makes you a very special someone for all of us here. I just can't imagine what people will be thinking (if we're still here hundreds of years from now) about how we used cars as a primary means of transportation even though we damaged the environment. The fact that they sit unused for long periods makes electric charging work really well. We put charging in our garage so it was easy to go EV. We've also made some long trips, and that worked out really well. When there is charging available at both ends of a journey it's easy...some hotels also offer charging and we usually select those if we're on a long trip.

That's funny with the cramps. Could imagine horses had gas issues too. I'd prefer legal stills(The oil and alcohol titans put a stop to those) so we can make our own gas, of sorts.

David, glad you could laugh....I know you have a sense of humor!! At least stills used grain and would not be releasing carbon that was sequestered over millions of years. I am imagining that we are about to witness some remarkable happenings as a result of the exponential growth of our species and release of greenhouse gases. We lemmings live in very exciting times.

Cute limerick. I hope to live out my life with a gas car. In the west, distance are too long to stop and charge.

You know what I worry about, the say the electric grid is already strained during summer and some areas already experience blackouts. If everyone goes electric...

Tom, it takes approximately 5 to 6 KW hours of electric power to manufacture one gallon of gasoline. This information comes from reports and studies conducted by organizations such as the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), International Energy Agency (IEA), and various academic institutions. Distribution and delivery adds approximately .1 to .5 KW hours for each gallon. The grid for distribution needs upgrading, which is currently underway, but the unseen electric use to produce and get you a gallon of gas would power an electric car approximately the same distance as that gallon of gas in a gas-powered car. So a gallon of gas comes with a hidden cost for the electricity, which could be delivered to you directly provided the grid is up to it. You also have the option to create your own electric power with solar cells.

Andrea, most welcome are you! I was hoping someone would notice the hidden pun...car-nage. I am repeating myself, but I am very fond of your work and dedication to poetry in general. You have a very interesting take and so many different subjects, and that is wonderful!

You and your family are on the right track, Duke. For a while both gas and EV are essential, but in the long run we have to protect the environment. Very potent theme you delivered in a fun way.

Vijay, no doubt we can't switch instantaneously. But if we are serious about surviving over the long term, we should make the switch as soon as we can and do a lot of other things to protect our home planet. It's a fun subject and we can also see some humor in it since that adds to the pleasure of examining the situation.

Yes Kim, I have mixed feelings about where we're at. My wife and I share one EV and nothing else. My son and daughter each have a model 3. However, we also know that these may only help the environment slightly, though as the source of electricity changes over time to wind and solar, they become more environment friendly. Gas cars are always bad.
