A Petrarchan Sonnet
A Petrarchan Sonnet consisting of an octave (8-line stanza) and a sestet (6-line stanza). The octave has eight lines following the scheme of ab ba ab ba and the sestet scheme of cd ec de. After the octave, there is a Volta or "change" in view or subject that follows in the sestet. So, the octave opens the poem and provides a setting and the sestet sums up the poem as well as closes it.
Caring hands massage both body and soul,
rejuvenating hope with their touch,
for like an angel, she helps me so much.
And every day when we go for a stroll,
she makes me feel liberated and whole.
In time, I will have no use for my crutch,
or at least, I will have less need for such,
for thanks to this nurse, I'll achieve my goal.
Her determination forces me on,
torturously rubbing my legs each day.
She'll taunt and bully me if I resist,
demanding I work the pain till it's gone.
And despite my screams, she'll not go away,
but instead, will mercilessly insist.
(Petrarchan Sonnet)
