CAR LIFT Story Poem Once went to river side to watch twilight. Sun was ready to hide with diffused light. Evening merged and darkness covered so soon. That charcoal night was a night of No Moon. My feet were tired and I wished a car lift. Solitary road, street lights were not lit. Any way I had to walk very slow. On a turn got alarmed in sudden glow. I chanced to see the headlight of a car. approaching towards me not from so far. Thought me fortunate : Promptly waved my hand. Being glad went road side to wait and stand. Car ignored me but was in slow motion. I opened back door finding no option. Boarding the car I sat and took aslant. Chilled to see that driver - seat was vacant. Car was moving on its own but too slowly as if a man walking unwillingly . Not aware of car moving alone, where it was going or travelling lone ! Is the driver a ghost ? Invisible ! No alternative! Quite possible ! Encouraged myself not to get frightened. Ghost might be helpful to be redefined. All on a sudden car made a stop. Got out of car just on a gallop. With rapid heart beats I stood on road side. A man seen behind the car came beside. Noticing me he simply rejoiced ! With instant joy and relief he voiced : ‘How lucky I am ! Like angel you stand. To push the car please lend me your kind hand. So long I am pushing car all alone. At last luck favoured me as you are shown.’ What a blunder I have done coming out ! To push the car I was bound, left no doubt. Went to nearby garage ! Car got repaired. Owner turned grateful as trouble I shared ! Didn’t disclose : While he pushed car, I sat cool. Perhaps he might have thought himself a big fool.
