Can'T Escape My Shadow

No matter how fast I run, the past can't be undone I've moved from here to there, I've been almost everywhere but... No matter where I go...I can't escape my shadow! It follows me to the beach, it's never out of reach Especially in the sun, it's darkness is the one That people seem to remember, even when it's September No matter how much I've grown...I can't escape my shadow! It follows me even at night, he's never out of sight Even if I went to the moon, he'd follow behind soon Even when my light shines bright, dark companions at my right No matter how much light I've shone...I can't escape my shadow! I don't see him personally, he's been gone for quite a while When others stop seeing him, that would really make me smile. John Derek Hamilton December 12,2015

My shadow only pokes me at night and I give it to God again and again. I enjoyed reading your poem, but I can't help thinking that along with all your other wonderful sentiments for people, it should be included to stop caring what people think. That's a whole other poem, huh? Very poetic, thought provoking and deep, a very good read ... CayCay

You're right, I wrote about not caring in my Poem old man boy and donkey. I could have made it more clear perhaps, I really wrote this for others who suffer prejudice, and bias, I'm so far past worrying about what others think, see My poem Great Minds. Thanks for your visits much appreciated.

I liked this a lot. A lot of imagery and almost desperation.

Thanks Susan unfortunately a lot of people are desperate for us to see them as they are, not just what we see on the outside. Thanks for comments.
