Perhaps the scariest word In the English language, cancer. There is no easy way to come to grips With this deadly, unforgiving disease It doesn't respect age or gender It's unimaginable the tremendous damage It inflicts on the human body, how it badly ages sufferers physically. It's cruel what it does To one's spirit; the excruciating pain it causes It's an absolute nightmare of a disease! Oftentimes it invades the body unbidden And wreaks havoc. It claims far too many Lives on a daily basis. Not even those... Who actively avoid it are immune to it Each day in America, the number of non-smokers... Diagnosed with lung cancer is in the tens Of thousands! The odds of survival grim, if detected Too late. But the good news is, cancer is not An automatic death sentence. People beat it Now more than ever. So to anyone battling cancer... However advanced the stage, hold onto hope And fight on! You never walk in darkness alone Your support system is steadfastly behind you And God is right by your side Put your dukes up and kick cancer's butt! I am so glad that you wrote this poem. My theory is that the ones who do not expect to die will live much longer and may beat it totally. "People beat it Now more than ever. " You have given us hope, Edward. This is a wow!
