Cancer

Cancer. What exactly is it? A disease is the medical term but to others it is unforgettable turmoil yet to be set in endless motion, either spiralling out of control, or simply vanishing after it has caused unimaginable pain. Cancer. It is seen as the one of the agents that tear families apart, either in an instant, like a mirror shattering, created by a sudden outburst of anger, or slowly like a dying plant deprived of water and light. Cancer. Many people may fear the day when their time comes but one hopes to choose the way they go. Sadly, no one can choose the way they leave this earth; nature beholds this ability and sadly it can be cruel in its own way. Cancer. Our one fear that we cannot sweep under a carpet of foggy memories at the back of our minds. Cancer. The one disease that seems selfish and cruel that many cannot endure.

It seems to touch every person in some way....and at one time was almost a unmentionable disease....it holds that much fear. The more we talk of it, the more we can do to help people who are touched. Thank you for "talking' of it.

I really hate this disease. I think the only one I fear more than this one is alzheimer's which my stepdad died of It takes your very essence from you which is what makes it worse than cancer. This is a good poem, Leighann.

My mother was extremely ill last year and to be blunt the doctors were useless; 5 misdiagnoses were made, that made me very angry because they were just messing her about. Out of the 5 misdiagnoses, Lung Cancer was the worst and last. I shall never forget how that made me feel or what it done to my family; my poem: Hope, is based on this experience, one I would rather forget but can't.

Having seen friends endure the pain of cancer for years before dying, I am in awe at the power of your description. I pray we find a cure one day. Progress has been made on some types of cancer, but not others. They seem to be able to slow its progression. My brother-in-law is battling prostate cancer now. Let's join in prayer that successful treatments for all types of cancer are found. Excellent poem! Love, Carolyn
