Can Someone Take My Place
John 14:16-17
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
A still voice, quiet in the shadow of truth
it comes, proof not withstanding scrutiny.
Failing not, he who asks for faith.
Christ called in innocence on God’s awesome
power and grace, Please, can
someone take my place,
Father—it is more than I can bear.
His prayer wasn't meant for the pain.
He was already immortal and that he knew.
Then again- - -Father they know not what they do.
While the sins of all people of all time
weighed heavily on his heart and his mind,
sinking him into the depths of
hell itself, waiting in the lake of fire.
Father, they are forgiven.
Take me back now into heaven
My spirit will forever remain.
Never again will man be alone and afraid.
He will know how and why I came,
And I promise that great will be his reward,
If he simply believes who I am
and calls on my name.
Do I believe this? Yes, I believe.
