Canis Lupis, your silver coat’s, light Reflected by moonlight’s eerie glow, Sheds glimpses of you in hunt of night With your pack in quiet stealthy show. The mystery in your feral song Enchants the heart of this solemn soul, As the pack chimes in to sing along; To feed your young, swells your lofty goal. Respected by the Native people Who knew you helped the balance of life, Long ago you hunted together Until settlers filled your life with strife. They killed you off in such great numbers Your species almost became extinct. But once protected you've multiplied To roam the woodlands by your instinct. Now once again we hear your wolf songs As you call out to your pack in tune. And they respond and the hunt is on Engulfed by light of the silver moon. © Connie Marcum Wong Note: I forgot to enter this in Casarah's contest after writing it especially for it! http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Wolf+Howling+at+Full+Moon&view=detailv2&&id=39986E9F42C2B3777805B2129B0C96D8E62240B9&selectedIndex=10&ccid=Ubg7mKFX&simid=608032967450167630&thid=OIP.M51b83b98a1579d2379402034fa9a59b2o0&ajaxhist=0

Remarkable, Connie--in concept, message, imagery, flow, word usage, and rhyme scheme. It's a first-rate presentation worthy of multiple curtain calls.

Great tribute Connie for a magnificent animal. The dingo here is also maligned because of predation of sheep, but it's the crossbreeds that do most damage - enjoyed - Lindsay

I thought I entered it Casarah. I wrote it especially for your contest. I am kicking myself for not double checking. Anyway, I am glad you liked it. Thanks, Connie

No animal is more synonymous with the rugged land, drifting below a full moon, awash with pale silvery light than the nerve-jangling howls of wolf-song! Nicely put together, Connie. My very best regards as always, Connie! :) john

Thank you very much John. I guess it was not entered in the contest. I remember entering it, but didn't double check to make sure and it is not listed as an entry. Shoot! I know this has happened to others too. Cheers, Connie

You have room to skip one Andrea. I just can't write unless I feel inspired. I just watched two movies tonight and didn't work on poetry.

Dear Connie This poem appeals to my native American side, the white wolf is my sacred guardian, and so this is right up my alley, loved it completely the plight of the wolf has always been a off balancing act between society and the wild, and if they are going to survive we must find a comfortable equaization, before it is two late again, or we may lose these wonderous creatures, whom were here before us, thanks you also for your comments on my poems, cheri

Thank you Cheri. What tribe? My niece is married to a man who is half Cherokee. They have four daughters. I am always on the side of helping save our environment which includes endangered species. I appreciate your thoughtful comment. Aloha, Connie

Connie - I enjoyed your writing so much that I counted syllables for each line in the first, two stanzas. As I suspected, all are 9. Great intro, great end and a mighty fine in between. There is no need to wish you luck ... CayCay

My daughter has a Siberian Husky who howls like a wolf sometimes. She almost never barks but will sing if prompted to. I love the Jack London stories. Thanks so much, Aloha, Connie

Your tribute to the wolf makes us realize that nature should be able to look after itself; the balance is lost when we humans decide to interfere! Love the images you create, Connie.#7 // paul

Exactly Paul! If we remove just one animal the entire Eco system changes and most of the time not for the better. Thank you. Cheers, Connie
