Bygones
A longing churns within my soul
A hunger unfulfilled
I smash the crystal hourglass
The sands of time are spilled
I dip my toes into the sand
My eyes begin to burn
I wipe a hot escaping tear
As memories return
I try to drag them back with me
Into the here and now
But they embody youthfulness
And I’ve forgotten how
I used to measure happiness
By counting every kiss
Collecting pictures in my mind
For such a time as this
But as my thoughts seek treasure deep
Within the mounting sand
My soul is busy stringing pearls
Unearthed by Wisdom’s hand
