Burning Embers

Our love started out as a burning fire Nothing mattered but being in your arms With passions flames you lifted me higher How could I possibly resist your charms That special smile, the one I remember Nothing mattered but being in your arms The flame's subsided it's now an ember Others may not see but we both know That special smile, the one I remember I cherish the warmth of the ember glow Our love so much stronger than yesterday Others may not see but we both know For many others love has gone away We are so careful we tend to loves flame Our love so much stronger than yesterday Sure we have fun, yet love is not a game We are so careful we tend to loves flame Our love started out as a burning fire With passions flames you lifted me higher Gail Angel Doyle's Burning Embers Contest

I like this poem a lot. I did have a question. I was actually leaving someone a comment and saw a comment you gave them saying this is a hard form, and was intrigued to investigate it, as I'm new to many forms. I saw that it uses the form of the Villanelle, so I felt like trying that, since I really like that form. I have seen two of yours and the quatrain rhymes aabb, but the definition here, says it should rhyme abab, I found that sometimes the definitons aren't complete and wondered.....

Either way is acceptable. Sometimes I play with the last line if I want to covey a particular change. This is not correct but I excercise my poetic licence.

If the definition may not be complete acurate. I found on discovery that the definiton of the Villanelle lacks a little in the explanation. I just had that question about the form, and was hoping that you might critique mine. I know that you're a good writer and want your opinion, mostly of if I did the form right. Thank you..Wayland

How in the world did I miss this beautiful poem??? It's amazing, Rick! Love does take tending or the flame is sure to go out! Great work as always...BTW..I was so happy with your post on my And the Poetess Says that I posted it on my wall on FB...after dutifully saying something about what an esteemed poet you are with FOUR poems in the top 35 of last month. Hope you don't mind...but it made me fly! :)
